BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Southern Vermont College has been summoned to a hearing over whether the school should be placed on probation over its financial stability.
The Bennington Banner reports the New England Commission of Higher Education says the college may be out of compliance with accreditation standards.
The college was last accredited in 2009 and due for a periodic review by the spring of 2019.
College President David Evans says like other small New England colleges, SVC is facing “exceptionally difficult financial challenges.” He says their issue is due to declining enrollment.
Evans says the college is working to provide evidence that it meets the commission’s standard on Institutional Resources.
The college’s show-cause hearing is scheduled for Feb. 28.
