AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine’s attorney general said Friday that nothing in a review of three complaints against the state’s chief medical examiner undermines his confidence in the quality of the examiner’s work.
Attorney General Aaron Frey released a letter he wrote to independent state Rep. Jeffrey Evangelos about the complaints on Friday. Evangelos filed the complaints against chief medical examiner Mark Flomenbaum.
One of the complaints alleged that Flomenbaum engaged in private business from his state office. Another concerned Flomenbaum’s findings related to the death of Jeffrey Aylward, a Massachusetts hiker who was found dead on the Appalachian Trail in August. The third was about whether a job ad posted for a position in the medical examiner’s office was inappropriate.
Frey’s letter states that Flomenbaum “has been found to be exemplary by the National Association of Medical Examiners.” The letter says Frey is confident in Flomenbaum and his office at large.
Flomenbaum did not respond to a request for comment.
