Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Josh Gordon has been suspended for violating the league’s policies on both performance-enhancing substances and substances of abuse, reports said Tuesday.
It marks the sixth time Gordon has been suspended since he entered the league in 2012, five of them in response to substance issues.
Gordon started the year with the New England Patriots, but was waived from injured reserve in October. After a knee injury healed, he joined the Seahawks and played in five games for them.
Gordon’s career, which began with the Cleveland Browns, has been marked by drug addiction problems, but he has continued to show flashes of receiving talent when he’s stayed on the field.
The NFL suspended him for the entire 2015 season for repeated violations. He was planning to return in 2016, but in September of that year he voluntarily checked himself into an in-patient facility.
