ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) - A facility to help people suffering from substance abuse has opened in Maryland’s Howard County.
County Executive Calvin Ball joined members of Grassroots Crisis Intervention to open the facility on Tuesday. It’s an important part of the county’s opioid intervention strategy to meet immediate needs for assessment, treatment and referrals, officials said.
The county is seeing progress in the fight against opioid addiction, Ball said. It has had a 42% drop in opioid-related fatalities and a 14% decrease in nonfatal overdoses, compared to last year.
Ball said success is built on partnerships with the county government and nonprofits such as Grassroots Crisis Intervention.
