MOSS POINT, Miss. (AP) - One person is dead following a police shooting in southern Mississippi.

Moss Point Police Chief Brandon Ashley tells news outlets that officers encountered an armed suspect Thursday night. He says police opened fire, killing the person.

Authorities didn’t provide any details about what happened. But a photo from the scene shows a car pulled off a street into grass with its driver’s door open.

Ashley says no officers were injured. Authorities haven’t identified the dead person or any officers who were involved.

Ashley says the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation will review the case.
