TIVERTON, R.I. (AP) - The town of Tiverton, Rhode Island has made casino operator Twin River’s pilot 24-hour operating license permanent after no one objected at a public hearing.

The Newport Daily News reports that the Tiverton Casino Hotel’s round-the-clock license still must be renewed yearly and would be subject to show-cause hearings if there are any perceived violations.

Casino attorney Mark Russo told the Town Council at Monday’s hearing that the 24-hour operating license is important to stay competitive.

The casino, offering table games and slot machines, opened a year ago. Sports betting was added in December.

The town is guaranteed at least $3 million annually in gambling revenue, in addition to property taxes and meals and beverage taxes. Revenues have increased every quarter since the casino opened.
