FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - The organizers of the Nenana Ice Classic have announced the jackpot for the 2019 contest.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that Ice Classic manager Cherrie Forness said Thursday that the total payout will be $311,652.

The Nenana Ice Classic clock shows the time, in Alaska Standard Time, that the ice officially went out on the Tanana River.

People buy tickets each year to guess the time. The person - or persons - with the correct time wins the jackpot.

After a record-warm March, the ice went out at 12:21 a.m. on April 14, the earliest time since the contest began in 1917.

Forness says only one ticket so far has matched that time exactly.

Forness estimates about 280,000 tickets were sold this year.

The payout will be made June 1.
