RALEIGH, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi state highway will stay closed longer as workers seek to repair a landslide.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said Friday that Highway 35 north of Raleigh in Smith County will remain closed through the middle of May.

The road was closed earlier this year after heavy rainfall prompted a landslide. The state now says repair work is more extensive than originally anticipated.

It’s one of several state highways and a number of county roads in Mississippi that were damaged by heavy rains this winter and spring.

Department spokesman Jason Scott says the state is spending $800,000 in federal disaster funds on the repairs.
