ELKHART, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a 23-year-old northern Indiana man died when he drove his pickup truck around railroad crossing arms and collided with a freight train.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department said Franky Reeves of Osceola died in the fiery crash about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on a rural road along the Elkhart-St. Joseph county line.

Deputies say the train dragged the truck for three-quarters of a mile before coming to a stop. They say the truck caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.

Reese was pronounced dead at the scene.
