RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - The Development Review Board has approved a proposed Starbucks in Rutland.
Mayor David Allaire last week announced that the site plan for the new coffee chain store had been approved. The Rutland Herald reports Allaire on Monday called it good news for the city and surrounding region.
The developer plans to demolish a vacant restaurant that will be cleared to house a new Starbucks with a drive-thru. Officials say there will be room for a second business.
The proposal drew some controversy because the building targeted for demolition dates back to around 1800 and appears on the state historic register.
The decision can still be appealed to the Vermont Environmental Court.
