A thunderous Harrison Ford told a crowd Thursday to “stop giving power to people who don’t believe in science” in an apparent rebuke to voters who support candidates leery of catastrophic climate-change scenarios.
The white-bearded Ford, best known for his starring movie roles as Indiana Jones and Han Solo, spoke at the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco, a weeklong climate fest hosted by California Gov. Jerry Brown.
“For God’s sake, stop giving power to people who don’t believe in science, or worse than that, pretend they don’t believe in science, for their own self-interest,” said Mr. Ford to enthusiastic applause. “They know who they are. We know who they are.”

The 76-year-old Ford was one of several celebrities, including Alec Baldwin and Dave Matthews, scheduled to appear at the summit, which also featured House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, former Vice President Al Gore, and liberal megadonors Michael Bloomberg and Tom Steyer.
Mr. Ford warned that there was “a risk, if we don’t change the path that we’re on today, the future of humanity is at stake.”
The actor drew praise on social media — California Democratic congressional candidate Katie Hill tweeted, “Harrison Ford is right” — as well as cracks about his lack of scientific credentials.
And Harrison Ford knows a lot about science because he reads lines that other people write for him on camera. https://t.co/9a7DSrKxyC

Climate change is real. Global warming is real. Science is real.
Come November, we need to elect leaders who will stand up for our health and our environment – I believe in science and I’m ready to get to work. https://t.co/JZ2Rt40L0O
