Las Vegas woman fatally mauled by recently adopted dog

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say a 58-year-old woman is dead after being fatally mauled in her home by the family dog.

Police say the husband of Susan Sweeney returned from work Monday night and called 911 after finding her dead in the living room.

Officials say Sweeney’s family had recently adopted the 83-pound (38-kilogram) mixed-breed dog from a shelter.

The family had the dog euthanized after police concluded their investigation.

The Animal Foundation said the dog was adopted from its shelter and that it had no information to indicate it was unsafe and that its behavior at the shelter didn’t raise any concerns.
