ATCHISON, Kan. (AP) - The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting involving an Atchison police officer.

The Atchison police department contacted the KBI Wednesday for assistance in an officer-involved shooting.

The KBI reports preliminary information indicates that an Atchison officer was sent to a theft of services call at an Atchison home. When the officer arrived on scene, a man approached the officer while carrying a rifle.

The KBI says the man, 44-year-old Bryan Boldridge, put down the rifle when ordered to by the officer.

The agency says when the verbal conflict escalated, the officer deployed a Taser. The suspect drew a handgun and fired at the officer, who was not hurt.

The officer returned fire and the suspect was wounded. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
