Mother of 1 of the Boy Scouts hit by car speaks out

MANORVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - The mother of one of the Boy Scouts hit by a car during a Long Island hike says he’s recovering but traumatized.

Kristine Lynch tells Newsday she happened to call her 15-year-old son Kaden just a few minutes after the crash alongside a Manorville road on Sunday.

Lynch says she could hear troop leaders and good Samaritans trying to help the boys.

Three other scouts were injured and 12-year-old Andrew McMorris died.

Kaden was released from the hospital on Monday. His brother, 12-year-old Colin, was a close friend of the boy who died.

Lynch says the scouts were taking a shortcut after walking for four hours.

Thomas Murphy has pleaded not guilty to driving while intoxicated. His attorney has called the crash “a tragedy for everyone.”
