WILMNGTON, Del. (AP) - Residents of a small apartment building in Delaware can’t return home soon after a fire spread by a lighter near an oxygen tank led to explosions, damage and one injury.

The state fire marshal’s office said the fire reported early Saturday just after midnight and originating in a Wilmington duplex was accidental.

The office says investigators concluded the fire began when a 69-year-old man attempted to light a cigarette while receiving oxygen, which enhanced the flame and ignited his robe. He was able to disrobe and flee outside.

The Delaware News Journal reported the man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire marshal’s office says the fire caused $30,000 in damage, and it’s unclear when any residents in the building’s five apartments will be able to return.
