70-year-old dies of injuries from Topeka apartment fire

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - A woman injured in a Topeka apartment fire on Wednesday has died.

Fire Marshal Mike Martin said in a news release Thursday that 70-year-old Katherine Bushey died from injuries she suffered in the fire at her apartment in southwest Topeka.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports a preliminary report indicated the fire was caused by improper disposal of smoking materials.

The fire started in Bushey’s bedroom and was quickly extinguished.

The building where the fire occurred has 10 apartments.
