Republican Sen. Dean Heller has expanded his lead over Democratic Rep. Jacky Rosen in the Nevada Senate race, which has long been viewed as one of the Democrats’ best bets for flipping a seat in the upper chamber.
Reuters/Ipsos/UVA Center for Politics released three state polls Wednesday that showed Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is hanging onto a lead over Democratic Rep. Beto O’Rourke in Texas and that Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin has a double-digit lead over her GOP rival Leah Vukmir in Wisconsin.
Gov. Scott Walker, meanwhile, is trailing Democrat Tony Evers in the Wisconsin governor’s race.
“Of the three polls, probably the best results for Republicans are in Nevada, where GOP candidates lead both the race for governor and Senate by slightly larger amounts compared to last month’s poll,” the poll analysis said. “If Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV) holds on, it would all but eliminate any hope Democrats have of winning the Senate (or, realistically, of preventing a net loss), but polls do sometimes underestimate Democrats in Nevada.”
Mr. Heller had a 47 percent to 41 percent lead over Ms. Rosen. Mr. Cruz was leading Mr. O’Rourke by a 49 percent to 44 percent margin. In Wisconsin, Mrs. Baldwin held a 15 point lead over Ms. Vukmir and Mr. Evers had a three-point edge over Mr. Walker, who is seeking a third term.
