MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire 1st Congressional District candidates Chris Pappas and Eddie Edwards are sparring weeks before the Nov. 6 election.
New Hampshire Public Radio reports that the candidates discussed entitlement programs, prescription drug prices and paid family leave at a Thursday forum at Saint Anselm College.
Democratic lawmaker Pappas said he’d “protect and strengthen” governmental programs.
Republican Edwards, who’s worked as a police chief, government regulator and lobbyist, pushed for the free market.
When asked about paid family leave, Edwards said paid time off should be up to individual businesses. Pappas said he support paid family leave and that as a country everyone should be treated the same.
Edwards said he’s committed to providing Social Security to current seniors. Pappas has criticized Edwards’ remarks about “weaning” young people off Social Security.
