CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - An additional patrol officer is being assigned to the West Virginia Turnpike due to an increase in crashes involving large trucks.
The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports the West Virginia Parkways Authority, the Public Service Commission and the West Virginia State Police announced they will dedicate an additional full-time patrol unit on the roadway. The action follows more crashes, including eight fatalities, near Camp Creek.
West Virginia Parkways Authority General Manager Greg Barr said he appreciates the additional officer, who will looking for speeders as well as inspect commercial vehicles. He says the new patrol unit will enhance enforcement and improve safety for all travelers.
The new officer is expected to start before traffic increases for the holidays.
