Liberal groups announced Friday they plan to fly a banner over Rep. Steve King’s congressional district in Iowa this weekend declaring: “Steve King: Worst for Iowa Women.”
Mr. King has come under intense scrutiny over the final days of the midterm election, with Democrats and Republicans slamming the eight-term incumbent over his alleged affinity for white nationalism.
UltraViolet PAC and American Bridge said the anti-King banner will appear Saturday above Sioux City and other parts of the 4th Congressional District, where Mr. King is running against Democrat J.D. Scholten, a former professional baseball player who has been endorsed by Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
“Steve King is a white supremacist, and an active threat to women in Iowa and around the country,” said Shaunna Thomas, co-founder and executive director of UltraViolet PAC. “Whether it is by voting to end access to health care, opposing fair workplace protections for women, or opposing pathways to justice for survivors of gender-based violence - Steve King has demonstrated a deep and dangerous misogyny that does not represent Iowa’s values, or American values.”
Mr. King is still favored to win re-election — though the recent uproar over his actions has raised questions about whether Democrats could pull off what would be considered a huge upset.
