ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey man has pleaded guilty in a double stabbing that left his ex-girlfriend dead and a Pennsylvania man critically injured.

Jose Lopez pleaded guilty Thursday to murder and attempted murder as part of a plea deal with Atlantic County prosecutors. The 53-year-old Ventnor man faces a 30-year prison term with no chance for parole when he’s sentenced Jan. 10.

The charges stem from a February 2017 confrontation in Atlantic City. Authorities say 54-year-old Bessy Blanco was pronounced dead inside her home, while 52-year-old Mark Richart, of Quakertown, was found on a nearby roadway.

Lopez was arrested the day after the stabbing when a Galloway Township police officer spotted him driving Richart’s vehicle.

Lopez had been kicked out of Blanco’s home just days before the stabbings occurred.
