CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A wintry mix has knocked out power to thousands of customers across West Virginia.

Appalachian Power says on its website that more than 19,000 homes and businesses were without electrical service Thursday evening as the storm dropped significant amounts of snow and ice. Raleigh County had the most outages with more than 8,900.

FirstEnergy says nearly 1,400 customers in West Virginia had no power.

Parts of the state are under a winter storm warning through early Friday.

Some counties hit by the storm have called off public school classes on Friday.
