MACUNGIE, Pa. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a man struck and killed by a freight train in eastern Pennsylvania.

The Lehigh County coroner’s office says 35-year-old James Heminitz of Macungie was pronounced dead Friday afternoon on the railroad tracks in Emmaus.

Norfolk Southern Corp. says a westbound train struck the victim shortly after 2:30 p.m. Friday. A spokesman said the mixed-freight train heading from Allentown to Birmingham, Alabama, used emergency brakes but wasn’t able to avoid striking the man.

An autopsy is scheduled Monday to determine the cause and manner of death.
