SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - A man wanted in connection with a shooting involving Surprise police has been apprehended in Colorado.

Surprise police say U.S. marshals assisted in locating 51-year-old Lonnie Smith on Thursday in Colorado Springs.

Authorities say officers approached Smith on April 9 in the parking lot of a business in Surprise because of his felony warrant for property and drug crimes.

Upon seeing officers, Smith allegedly displayed a gun. Officers shot at Smith, who fled on foot.

Smith then stole a bystander’s vehicle and fled the scene.

Smith is currently awaiting extradition back to Arizona.
