BIDDEFORD, Maine (AP) - State Rep. Marty Grohman has kicked off his independent bid for Congress.
The independent from Biddeford said he’s running for Congress to fix it, not to fight. He said his goal is to “get past our partisan biases to make life better for Mainers.”
Grohman surpassed the 2,000 signature requirement for independent candidates to get on the ballot. He formally launched his campaign on Wednesday with an event in Biddeford.
He’s running against Democratic Rep. Chellie Pingree and Republican Mark Holbrook of Brunswick. Pingree easily defeated Holbrook in 2016.
Ranked-choice voting could factor into the election. Voters on June 12 will decide whether the voting system will be used in federal elections in November.
