LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas man has been sentenced to probation for filing fake real estate paperwork.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Thomas Benson was sentenced Wednesday to five years of probation. He was sentenced Monday to two years of probation in a separate case.
Benson pleaded guilty in January to felony charges of offering a false instrument for filing or recording and false representation concerning title.
Authorities say the charges stem from Benson’s attempted takeover of a foreclosed Las Vegas house. Authorities say he sued for the property and filed a lease for it on the same day in 2016.
Prosecutors say Benson is a follower of the anti-government “sovereign citizen” ideology. Benson has made a series of bizarre statements in court filings, including claims that he’s not a person.
