NEW YORK (AP) - A man convicted in a brutal elevator stabbing in Brooklyn that killed a 6-year-old boy and left his 7-year-old friend with serious wounds has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison.

Daniel St. Hubert was sentenced on Tuesday after being found guilty of murder in the death of Joshua Avitto and the attempted murder of Mikayla Capers.

St. Hubert had been living in a homeless shelter when the attack happened in June 2014.

Police say Hubert pulled out a 9-inch knife and started stabbing the two children after telling them to shut up. The kids had just returned from getting ices.

St. Hubert’s lawyer had said his client was framed. He called the surviving elevator victim and witness “a pathological liar.”
