PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza continues to lead the field of potential opponents as he prepares for his re-election campaign.
According to the Rhode Island Board of Elections, the Democrat has $661,000 cash on hand. WPRI-TV reports Elorza raised $71,000 and spent $74,000 during the first quarter of 2018. He paid a Washington research firm $24,000 earlier this year for polling.
Elorza received donations from prominent developers Arnold Chace and Mark Van Noppen. Attorneys Zach Darrow and Paul Sullivan also made contributions.
Democratic State Rep. John Lombard has $76,000. He has not formally announced his candidacy.
Democrat Kobi Dennis ended the quarter with less than $2,000. Dennis has raised over $18,000 since announcing his campaign in October.
Elorza plans to formally launch his re-election campaign next month.
