MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont is celebrating the 100th birthday of its Supreme Court building.

The event on Friday afternoon includes a ceremony outside the building in Montpelier, followed by tours and the re-enactment of oral arguments in a 1918 case.

Vermont Public Radio reports the case was Dodge Brothers v. Central Vermont Railway Company and involved five colts that were killed by a train.

Attorney and historian Paul Gilles says the building was the first one built and designed for the Supreme Court. Before 1892, he says the court moved around the state each week.

He says since the building was built, the time limits for oral arguments have changed. A century ago it was an hour, and now, it’s 15 minutes. Re-enactors are sticking to the current allotment.
