ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - The U.S. Forest Service is seeking public comment on the Aspen Skiing Co.’s plan to expand its skiing areas and snowmaking system on Aspen Mountain.

The Aspen Times reports the federal agency announced that it will hold a public forum in Aspen on the project next week for Forest Service and company officials to answer questions.

The company is seeking to add 148 acres (60 hectares) of skiing terrain on the eastern, upper half of the mountain.

The proposal also calls for snowmaking to be added to 53 acres (21 hectare) on six trails at the top of the mountain. The plan would require a pumping station, water storage and an underground pipeline.

The federal agency is taking public comment until mid-June.
