PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A Pierre man is accused of beating the infant son of his girlfriend.

A grand jury this week indicted 35-year-old Gary Martin on aggravated battery and child abuse charges. He’s accused of beating the 2-month-old boy in January, possibly causing bleeding in the brain.

A statement from the attorney general’s office did not give an update on the boy’s condition.

Court documents don’t list an attorney for Martin. The Capital Journal reports that he remains jailed awaiting an arraignment, during which he will enter a plea. He could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted of the most serious charge against him.
