JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Belhaven University is sending one of its own into retirement in style as it honors outgoing provost Dan Fredericks.

Fredericks is addressing Belhaven’s bachelor’s degree recipients Saturday morning in Jackson and receiving an honorary degree from the school in thanks for more than 30 years of service. Officials credit him with helping the university expand to eight campuses in five states.

The school is also granting an honorary degree to Stephanie Chung, a musician and philanthropist who lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.



Dolphus Weary is addressing graduate, adult and online degree recipients. Weary is the former head of Mission Mississippi, which focuses on a Christian approach to racial reconciliation. Weary now leads the Rural Education and Leadership Christian Foundation

Belhaven is presenting about 450 degrees in Jackson.
