BOSTON (AP) - Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Lively says he’s crossed a 10,000-signature threshold needed to secure a spot on the November ballot, although the signatures are still subject to challenge.
The staunchly conservative Springfield pastor and supporter of President Donald Trump is hoping to unseat Republican Gov. Charlie Baker. He received the support of nearly 28 percent of delegates to the Republican state convention - more than the required 15 percent.
Democratic State Secretary William Galvin said Friday his office confirmed that local city and town clerks reported having received just over 10,000 Lively signatures.
Because he has more than 10,000 but less than 11,000, Lively has the right to have the clerks take a second look at any signatures they didn’t certify.
Lively’s campaign said they plan to challenge disqualified signatures.
