ENCINITAS, Calif. (AP) - The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department says an Amtrak train struck and killed a woman in Encinitas.

The death was reported at 12:27 a.m. Thursday.

The department says the train was heading south at about 78 mph (125 kph) when the operator saw woman seated on the tracks.



Emergency braking was activated but the train was unable to stop in time.
