NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Authorities say thousands of people were without power in the New Orleans area after thunderstorms moved through the region.

NOLA.com ’ The Times-Picayune reports that more than 10,000 Entergy customers were without power Tuesday morning in Orleans and Jefferson parishes.

The company reported on its website that power had gone out around 6 a.m., and that crews hoped to have it restored later Tuesday morning.



Among the hardest-hit areas: Kenner, with 4,447 outages; and Metairie with 3,136.

Nearly 17,000 outages were reported statewide.
