Ed Hochuli will retire from his career as an NFL referee, according to Al Riveron, the NFL’s senior vice president of officiating.

Jeff Triplette will also retire from the league.

Hochuli’s son, Shawn Hochuli, is one of two people announced as new referees for next season. The younger Hochuli has worked on NFL officiating crews as an NFL back judge since 2014.

Ed Hochuli has served as an NFL official since 1990 and a referee since 1992. He served as head ref for five Super Bowls in that time.

Hochuli was a popular figure known for his muscular arms. He was voted by NFL head coaches as the best referee in the league in 2008 (tied with Mike Carey).

By day, Hochuli is an attorney based in Arizona.
