Longtime Major League outfielder Ichiro Suzuki soon could return to the Seattle Mariners, the team with which he made his United States debut, USA Today reported.
Ichiro, 44, last played for the Mariners in 2012, when he was traded to the New York Yankees. After three years in New York and three with the Miami Marlins, Ichiro received a buyout when Miami did not pick up his option.
Seattle is interested in signing the future Hall of Famer to a one-year deal, according to the reports.
Ichiro holds the single-season MLB record of 262 hits, set in 2004. He has 3,080 hits in his 17-year career in the U.S. Before coming to the U.S. in 2001, he played professionally in his native Japan for nine years.
Pitcher Bartolo Colon was the only older player in the majors last year. Colon signed a minor-league deal with the Texas Rangers this offseason.
