WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Police in Delaware say they should have responded differently to a dog attack that left a woman injured and one of her dog’s dead.
Wilmington police Chief Robert Tracy said in a statement Friday that a police officer should have gone to the scene. The News Journal in Wilmington reported that an animal control officer had been referred after a 911 call. The animal control officer didn’t arrive for nearly 50 minutes.
A stray pit pull had attacked 66-year-old Diane Olin White and her two dogs on Monday. White and boxer mix Stella walked away with injuries. But 12-year-old Darcy, a white poodle and Jack Russell mix, died.
The chief said an immediate response may not have saved the dog. But he said a city police officer should have responded.
