GREAT MILLS, Md. (AP) - More than 100 students, alumni and teachers from a southern Maryland high school where two students were fatally shot this week are participating in the March for Our Lives rally in Washington.
The students from Great Mills High School marched four days after a 17-year-old boy fired his father’s gun at school, fatally wounding a 16-year-old girl before an armed sheriff’s deputy confronted him. The boy was killed, although police haven’t said whether the deputy shot him or he killed himself. Another boy was wounded.
Student Kayla Wells told the Capital Gazette Saturday’s march was about showing politicians that a new generation will soon be voting. She said: “Things are about to change.”
Wells said she wants stricter gun laws, including one that raises the minimum age to buy a weapon.
