LUGOFF, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a police officer investigating a burglary at a South Carolina business shot and grazed the owner after he came out of the building with a shotgun.
Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said the bullet fired by the officer grazed the man’s finger and he refused treatment around 12:30 a.m. Friday.
Matthews says deputies investigating a burglary call in Lugoff saw a man come out of the building with a shotgun turn toward them with the weapon.
The sheriff said in a statement the State Law Enforcement Division is investigating.
Matthews did not identify the deputy who fired, the store owner or his business, citing the investigation.
The race of the officer and the business owner were not released.
