ANGOLA, La. (AP) - Four Louisiana correctional officers have been arrested as part of an investigation into contraband smuggling and “inappropriate behavior.”
NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune cites a release from the Department of Public Safety and Corrections saying four Louisiana State Penitentiary officers have been arrested since Saturday, while another officer was fired and another was placed on administrative leave. More arrests are expected.
Allegations include drug smuggling, accepting money from inmates and their relatives and having inappropriate relationships with inmates.
All the officers involved thus far are women. The four arrested have since resigned.
The inmates involved have been placed in administrative segregation pending the outcome of the investigation.
The recent series of arrests follow three resignations in January over contraband smuggling and sex with an inmate. Last May, two officers were arrested for smuggling.
