PAWLET, Vt. (AP) - Two Rutland County towns have received historic preservation grants from Vermont’s community development agency.
The Rutland Herald reports the state Division for Historic Preservation recently awarded Pawlet an $8,500 grant and Sudbury a $4,020 grant.
Pawlet will use its grant to preserve the auditorium ceiling in its town hall. The town hall was constructed in 1881 and has served as a general store, school, post office and library.
Sudbury will use the state funds to repair a 19th English-style barn at the Miller Hill Farm. The barn was used to produce charcoal before it housed cattle.
Corkins says the state has awarded about $200,000 this year to towns and organizations for historic preservation projects.
