AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - A glimpse of Clint Eastwood would have made LaDale Lowe’s day.

The Augusta resident picked up her sisters early in the morning so they could get downtown by 6:30 a.m. and pick out a star-watching spot in the landscaped median along Broad Street, where Eastwood was shooting scene for his new film “The Mule.”

“We knew they were going to be filming here today, but we had no idea when,” Lowe told The Augusta Chronicle . “You know, they’re not releasing any details at all, so I just took the day off work and grabbed my sisters.”

They were among dozens who gathered Wednesday to watch as the Hollywood crew shot a robbery scene at the First Community Bank before moving on to other locations in the Augusta area. Cars passing by slowed down in the street as their drivers tried to snap photos of the spectacle.

Fan Elizabeth Santiago also showed up downtown Wednesday morning hoping to get a photo with Eastwood, who is directing and starring in the film about an older man who winds up working as a courier for a Mexican drug cartel.

“He loves a beer, and so do I,” Santiago said. “I’d love to have one with him.”

“The Mule” also stars Bradley Cooper, Dianne Wiest and Michael Pena.

Earlier this year, Augusta streets and buildings were used as filming locations for the movie “Detroit Crossing.”

This is the second time in a year that Augusta streets and buildings are being used to represent Michigan settings, after last fall’s filming of Detroit Crossing.

“We’re a location town,” said Brad Owens of the Augusta Regional Film Office. “The asset is the town itself.”

He said part of Augusta’s appeal for filmmakers is the ability to move between multiple locations in a single day.

“You can’t do two moves a day in Atlanta,” Owens said. “We have probably the most locations and the easiest way of doing business.”
