FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (AP) - Police in Massachusetts say an argument over potato chips led to an assault at a shelter over the weekend.

The MetroWest Daily News reports 64-year-old Harold Dewar, of Framingham, was arrested Saturday morning and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Dewar had a warrant for a previous assault when he was arrested.

Police say the assault happened Friday at the South Middlesex Opportunity Council-owned shelter in Framingham. Investigators say Dewar screamed at a man who asked if he had opened his potato chips. Police say Dewar then threw a ceramic bowl that shattered against a wall and cut the victim’s face.

Dewar left the shelter but was arrested when he returned.

Dewar’s attorney argued that the incident was a “mutual fight.”

Deward is being held on $500 bail. A pretrial conference is scheduled for Jun. 30.
