Fox News host Harris Faulkner never forgot her father’s invaluable tenets for getting through life, and has now shared that wisdom in a new book, published Tuesday.
“9 Rules of Engagement: A Military Brat’s Guide to Life and Success,” reflects the courage, perseverance and patriotism of her dad, retired U.S. Army Lt. Col Bob Harris, who served two tours in Vietnam as a combat pilot. The book is also a candid collection of Ms. Harris’ own experiences and reflects both a generosity of spirit and a tenacious focus on the future. The endearing photos of her family are of particular note.
“In this climate, I find myself returning to the touchstones of my youth, realizing more clearly just how lucky I was to grow up as the daughter of a lieutenant colonel. Because the military exists to deal with challenging situations, so much of what they teach our troops about achieving success in trying times applies to us civilians trying to succeed in these times,” the author writes.
She offers nine rules for getting by, including “Recruit your special forces,” “Stay ready,” “Wear camo,” “Unleash the power of integrity” and “Think like a general,” among others.
“Are you catching the rules in play here?” Ms. Faulkner asks her readers. “This is a tie for all Americans — you in particular— to use as many of these nine rules as needed to meets the challenges and opportunities ahead of you. I say go forth and use them all!”
The book is published by Harper Collins. Ms. Faulkner will also embark on a book and media tour which will take her to, among other places, the National Press Club, The Heritage Foundation, the Richard Nixon Library and Museum and ABC’s “The View.”
She can be seen each weekday on Fox News beginning at noon ET; she hosts “Outnumbered” and “Outnumbered Overtime.”
