NEWINGTON, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu has signed a bill to name a bridge in honor of a Ruth Griffin, who served on the Executive Council for 20 years.

The new Dover-Newington Bridge on Route 16 has been named the Ruth L. Griffin Bridge.

Griffin, a Republican, also served in the New Hampshire House and Senate.



The 92-year-old Griffin on Thursday thanked her late husband, John Griffin, for motivating her to get into politics.

Seacoastonline reports the crowd was filled with current and former officials, friends and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Attendees included former U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg, former Portsmouth mayors Peter Weeks and Ted Connors, as well as Craig Welch, executive director of the Portsmouth Housing Authority.
