EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) - World renowned soprano Renee Fleming will deliver the main commencement address at Northwestern University’s commencement ceremony.
In a news release, the university in the Chicago suburb of Evanston says that along with speaking at the ceremony on Friday, Fleming will receive an honorary degree.
Fleming is one of the most acclaimed opera singers in the world and is often referred to as the “People’s Diva.” She is a four-time Grammy Award winner who was the first classical artist to sing the national Anthem at the Super Bowl.
The creative consultant to the Lyric Opera of Chicago has also been presented the National Medal of Arts, the highest award to artists by the U.S. government.
