There will be a “Roseanne” spinoff this fall. There just will be no Roseanne.
According to Reuters news agency, ABC said it had ordered 10 episodes of a show called “The Conners” for broadcast in fall 2018.

But, ABC cautioned, Roseanne Barr herself will have no involvement in the program.

According to ABC, cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf and Sara Gilbert will be part of the show, though the network did not elaborate on what would happen to Ms. Barr’s character.
“After a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before,” ABC said in a statement that listed such issues as “parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging and in-laws in working-class America.”
In a separate statement, Ms. Barr said she agreed to be removed from the show to preserve the jobs of about 200 cast and crew.
“I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from ’Roseanne,’ ” Ms. Barr said. “I wish the best for everyone involved.”
Ms. Barr “rebooted” her smash late-1980s sitcom earlier this year, to huge ratings boosted by Ms. Barr’s sympathies for President Trump, Mr. Trump’s personal endorsement, and her commitment to showing a working-class family that reflects the political landscape in the heartland.
However ABC canceled the show late last month in the wake of backlash from Ms. Barr’s Twitter feed, on which she compared a black adviser to President Barack Obama to “Planet of the Apes.”
