An elementary school in Virginia will be renamed Barack Obama Elementary School the Richmond School Board decided Monday night. In a 6-1 vote, the board decided to remove the name of JEB Stuart, a confederate general, from the school that has a 95% African-American student body.

CBS News reports:

Many of the new school name options represented influential African-American civil rights leaders including Barbara Johns, Oliver Hill, and Henry Marsh.

The top three finalist names on Monday night were Barack Obama, Northside, and Wishtree.

Richmond was the capital of the Confederacy during the Civil War and JEB Stuart was the last remaining school bearing the name of a Confederate figure.
