BICKNELL, Utah (AP) - Officials say a Utah man died following exposure to an industrial pesticide material, leading to the temporary closure of a medical clinic.
The Deseret News reports Wayne County spokeswoman Kassidee Brown says 70-year-old George Coombs, of Teasdale, encountered what officials say was aluminum phosphide Sunday at a Teasdale home. He was taken to the Wayne Community Health Center in Bicknell, where he died.
The U.S. National Library of Medicine describes aluminum phosphide as “one of the most common causes of poisoning among agricultural pesticides.”
Brown says everyone within the home where Coombs was exposed and medical staff who aided Coombs were evaluated for contamination.
Brown says the Wayne Community Health Center clinic was closed during “investigation and evaluation of this incident,” and a temporary clinic was set up.
